Carly Porrello-Yoga and Pilates

Nice addition to my yoga dvd collection
I picked this up in a cheapie bin at a local discount retailer one day on a whim and it actually took me several months before I decided to give this a try and I was pleasantly surprised. I generally alternate between Jillian Michaels Yoga Meltdown dvd and Biggest Loser Weightloss Yoga but have been looking for a little variation between the two. I will admit, this video is very cheaply made but don't let that stop you from giving this dvd a shot. You start with a 5 minute warmup and I'll admit that I skip it because to me it's not much more than deep breathing. The rest of the video is broken into 10 minute segements: upper body, lower body, balancing, pilates core and pilates legs. I really like this video. It's a nice change of pace from the repetitive warriors and downward facing dogs in most yoga videos.

BUY TODAY!!!
This DVD is AWESOME!!! I just recently got into yoga and pilates and this DVD is great for all levels! Sometimes I just do 10 minute movements before work for a nice quick workout. The instructor is not only amazing at what she does, but she is so knowledgeable about yoga and pilates. If you're looking for a great yoga/pilates workout for a great price, BUY THIS TODAY!!!

Fun and Fit
The biggest attraction for me is I am enjoying myself while following along with the clear path to becoming fit! Carly leads you through this work out while transferring the feeling that life is good !! The work out is gentle while the results are huge. You will receive the benefits from this DVD just like me .

Harlem Hostel

IT TOOK ME BACK HOME
I REALLY LIKE IT, SEEING HARLEM FROM WHERE I'M AT HERE IN MASSACHUSETTS, IT'S ONE OF THE BLACK CULTURAL CENTERS OF THE COUNTRY

I thought it was ok
It's not a Hollywood blockbuster, but I just like movies with a bright urban feel to them. I watched it on Netflix, and half-way through, I decided to come here to purchase it. It's better to see the boroughs in something other than a gangster movie! I think the above reviewer is looking too hard for some kind of sense or deep meaning in a fun-time movie (which is how I see it.)

On the other hand, if the writers, director, or producer wanted this to be a serious Hollywood comedy, then they were badly mistaken, and the above reviewer gets a thumbs up.

vomit-y-licious!
You know I want to see young actors of color get film credits and have entree to Hollywood. However, giving the film PC points doesn't save it. This film is just flat and awful! Message to majority guys and rainbow-flag women: the hot chick at the center of the cover is not the main character! She's secondary, and this film is just about 4 dumb dudes. The comedy is poorly done. Purists will hate hearing Caucasian Americans imitate European accents. I suppose lots of comedy centers around intelligent men being persuaded by their dumb best buddies to do dumb things. However, it's very painful to watch here, and the whole film is based upon it. This film is accurate about one thing: in New York, sometimes you can't tell if a group of people are Blacks and Latinos or if the whole group is Afro-Latino. Visually, I loved seeing the shades of chocolate and peanut butter. However, if you watch closely, it's the darker-skinned, Blacker characters who are stupider than the...

Amos 'N' Andy Check and Double Check 1930

"Ain't dat sum'in'!"
Founded in 1993, Chandler, AZ. based AFA ENTERTAINMENT wholesales and retails PD motion pictures in both full and widescreen formats. Cover art is often repros of vintage movie posters. They also provide a transfer to DVD service for videotapes and 8mm home movies. Their film dubs offer no commentary, deleted scenes, subtitles or other bonus features. Quality of these unrestored transfers is based on condition of source material, which can vary from very good to only fair.

Duke Ellington's Cotton Club orchestra is featured midway through CHECK AND DOUBLE CHECK. JAZZ COCKTAIL, from British label ASV LIVING ERA is a highly recommended CD of this band's 1930-era music.

Except for a brief stint in THE BIG BROADCAST OF 1936 and a couple of voiced-over cartoon shorts, CHECK AND DOUBLE CHECK marks the only screen appearance for the most popular team in early American radio. The movie itself...

Honor Squadrons

A fine testament to historic aviation - the machines and their heroes
This is a powerful documentary telling the story of some truly amazing vintage aircraft and the people who restore and fly these machines. It tells the tale of "beating swords into plowshares," bringing a unique level of emotion and an impressive feeling of honorable history to bear. This program originally aired on PBS, and it was a pledge favorite for the network for years after. Since then it has been that sort of hand-to-hand treasure that history buffs love to pass around.

If you are among those history buffs, or if you simply want to share the emotion and majesty that can be inspired by tales of human ingenuity and undaunted patriotism, I'd go beyond highly recommending this video. I would insist that you add it to your collection now, and share it with as many people as you can! It is the perfect primer for teaching children about the roots of aviation technology as much as about the challenges, the tragedies, and the triumphs of our veterans. An A+, and worth every...

Sesame Street: Bert and Ernie's Great Adventures

They love it
My boys love Bert and Ernie's adventure. I'm bored by it after 3 episode but I'm not a child. The song is catchy and I will say I'm happy my boys love this for 2 reasons. 1. Tired of Elmo products. And 2. I have twin boys and this teaches them to work together as a team, and to problem solve together.

One of her faves!
My little one (2 1/2 years) is obsessed with this video. It is cute for any Bert & Ernie fan

Perfect
My daughters' favorite part of Sesame Street is Bert and Ernie. So this is perfect. Like 10 or 12 shows on it.

BIG HEART CITY

Rodkin Never Fails
I have seen Rodkin's work from film school and was very happy to hear of his feature, "Big Heart City." I was also happy to see how Andrews' character tries to make things right after a long absence. It's a great story and a must-see.

Pleasing those who pay
This is an interesting portrayal of Germany in the 1930's. While Levi, the Jewish cattle trader is the focus of the movie, it is really just a frame around a bigger picture. While Levi sees life long friendships and business relationships severed in a short span, it's the motivation of those severing these ties that is the most telling part of the movie. As it is often the case, putting the right pressure on economic interests can lead to remarkable "change or heart" of those in opposition.

Mostly placid rural community gets disrupted by a railroad maintenance crew from Berlin who arrived to repair collapsed tunnel. The Berliners are vocal Nazi followers and clash with some of the villagers who have very low opinions of Hitler. But by and by, many of the villagers come around and try to please Berliners -- mostly due to fear of losing out economically. For example, a local farmer refuses to sell a cow to Levi, Jewish middle man who used to buys his cows for many...

Charlie Rose: Charlie Rose Brain Series Episode Seven (April 21, 2010)

beautiful information
This episode focuses on desire and reward. They summarize the dopominergic system in the brain and explain what goes on when we experience pleasure or anticipate pleasure. Addiction is discussed (i.e. food, sex and drug) and gambling addiction is mentioned but the focus was on drug addiction.

There was a part in the discussion that I would have left out or suggested that something be not said or discussed. During the discusion on addiction, Dr. Volkow starting talking about obesity and addiction to food despite the fact that there was one obese gentleman on the panal (Dr. Salzman of Columbia). While Dr. Volkow was talking about food addiction and obesity, the camera was not turned to Dr. Salzman who I think would have been visiably uncomfortable or embarrased. I was thinking to myself, "poor guy I'm sure he didn't like to hear those things". They should have focused more on gambling addiction since one of the panal members was obese. Another interesting part was...

My Migraines
This Series has answered most of my questions about my headaches. Future research in brain science is necessary if one is to get a complete picture of the problems.

Peacock

Way Off Beat
As you can see by the previous reviews, the opinions are greatly varied. They all have merit but I have to say I liked it more than I didn't like it.

As for the issue of multiple or fractured personalities, I don't have the expertise to say whether or not they exist, but it is the crux of this film so, depending on your views on the matter, you may need to suspend your disbelief.

Yes. You get, right off the bat, the strong connection to Psycho. Abused son plus dead mom equals crazy son. This son, played by Cillian Murphy will make or break this one for you. Susan Sarandon is present but she's doing what she can with a rather small part. Bill Pullman seems unnecessarily weird and Ellen Page does a very good job even though she's only in a couple of scenes. This is Murphy's movie. The way he plays the parts of John and Emma, I felt, were tremendous. He's screwed up and trapped in a self imposed prison. Through a trick of fate he almost finds a way out through his...

Academy nominee for leading actor
The plot of the movie is a dark pscychological thriller without your usual graphic gore and expected hollywood shocker ending. The story deals with an alter ego or split personality in a man that was abused as a child by his mother. Murphy's performance as Emma is superb. He makes you believe you are watching the transformation of a beautiful, shy and soft spoken woman into a secure, assertive one. I cannot think of any other actor who could have pulled this off as beautifully as he did, since he does have an incredible talent and androgynous features with wig and drag. If you want to watch a great and unique performance, you wont be disappointed.

The life of a split personality in a small town is suddenly derailed
We see a woman busy doing her chores one morning, the last of which is to make a sandwich and leave a note on top of it. Then she goes into the bedroom, takes off the wig she is wearing, and the next thing we know we are watching John get dressed for work. "Peacock" might be a title meant to symbolize the main character played by Cillian Murphy, but it turns out to be the name of the town in which John Skillpa and his alter-ego Emma are living their quiet but divided life. It turns out that John is a momma's boy raised by a not so nice mother. She always took care of him and in the wake of her death "Emma" arrived to take momma's place. The arrangement works quite nicely. John goes off to his dull job in the basement of the town bank, eats the lunch Emma made for him, and dutifully picks up things at the store as instructed by her note. Everything is working fine, and then one day, as Emma is hanging up the laundry, a caboose from a passing train ends up in the front yard. To...

Citizen Duane

An outstanding jewel :-)
Citizen Duane is one of those films you have never heard of. If you ever happened to stumble across it, the cover would lead you think that it was some manner of strange kids' fare that wouldn't appeal to anyone over 12. However, the truth is that this is a brilliant piece of cinema that strikes every chord it goes for perfectly.

Douglas Smith and Devon Bostick as the dysfunctional brother team are outstanding. Alberta Watson is believable, sweet, funny, strong, and real every moment she's on screen. Donal Logue is great. This is one of the strongest casts you'll find assembled anywhere. Douglas Smith in particular is a breakout here. He's like a very real, quirky, and strange Fred Savage if Wonder Years were written with a slightly psychotic flair. He conveys a world of emotion with his face and is utterly charming. I'd love to see more work by him.

The plot is clever even if not the deepest material around. It's a tad predictable, but well-paced which...

"Time to call in the dogs and p*** on the fire"
CITIZEN DUANE (2008) is an interesting film to review. Filmed in the very pretty city of Hamilton, Ontario, this hilarious, politically deep comedy actually has a powerful message for all Americans--not just our far Northern cousins.

The gorgeous and too-little-seen Douglas Smith is Duane Balfour, a weirdly determined genius who decides he must run for mayor of the fictional city of Ridgeberg (which I have also seen billed as "Ridgeway"). Smith is a very close match to the teenaged Leonardo DiCaprio, right down to the pretty lips and petulant blue eyes...but the resemblance ends there.

Smith gives a polished comedic performance as Balfour, yet he also manages to tug at the heartstrings. Enduring first a patronizing interest from the town, which later becomes outright hatred, Balfour learns what it is to be a budding politician. What he learns will change him forever.

His endearing, goofy younger brother Maurie (the equally cute little Devon Bostick) is...

HIT Favorites: Being a Friend

Cute and Fun with all the characters!
My boys love this DVD! It has Fireman Sam, Thomas, and Bob the Builder which they really love and Barney as a bonus. They even liked the Angelina part! All the episodes are about being friends and working together, amongst other great lessons. The best part though is the DVD has Auto Play which means it automatically goes to the first episode and then continues, unless you choose the menu in the first few seconds the DVD is on. My 3 year old loves to put DVDs in himself and this way, he doesn't have to hit the play button, just pop in the DVD. All of these episodes are also super colorful and bright, and have cute music! This DVD is great for kids to get a variety of characters, as well as their favorites, all while learning something (hopefully!)

Prom Wars

Great Cast - But Target Audience is Confusing
Prom Wars is a decent teen-themed movie, although the target audience is hard to figure out. On one hand, it's a very light-hearted film that seems to cater to tween Nickelodeon fans. On the other hand, it's a rated-R film with occasional swearing and a few mild sexual references. So while it's not as explicit as American Pie, it's unusually R-rated when it very easily could have been PG-13 without the swearing. Quick note to parents: there's no nudity, just a couple scenes of actors and actresses in their undies.

The senior class of an all-girls private school challenges two boys school rivals to compete with one another, the winner earning the right to take the girls to prom. Unfortunately the writing isn't that funny, even for a bubbly teen film.

What makes Prom Wars watchable is that it has a solid cast of college-aged actors, all with a good deal of TV and film experience. The most interesting casting is the talented and gorgeous Alia Shawkat, who did...

Worth fighting for
It's refreshing to see a movie this funny and mature without being over-the-top offensive. Prom Wars is rated R for a bit of language and sexual references, all of which are only implied, so while it calls for an older-teen audience it shows nothing more than you'd see at a beach or on basic television.

The lead cast fill their roles beautifully, and the story and soundtrack are catching. Alia Shawkat is as lovely and clever as you've seen her in Arrested Development, and Raviv Ullman is still a brilliant and underrated actor. His subtle expressions and lack of shame in being a complete lunatic shine in this film, and they both play complex characters with acting skills beyond their age. The background personalities light up the screen as well, and the final battle (and ending twist) make this one of my favorite movies. I hope this rich movie makes your day as much as it has mine.

i guffawed
I loved this movie, I think there could've been more to it but overall it was surprisingly good. Fights, romance, comedy, its all here

Fraggle Rock: Dance Your Cares Away/Live By The Rule Of The Rock

Great show - but get the newer complete set
Recently, I was clearing my parents house out and found a box of old toys, including a bunch of Fraggle dolls that I had as a kid. When I mentioned this to my sister, she said she heard that Fraggles were making a comeback with a new movie coming out. Sure enough, when I checked Amazon, the complete series was available. It was such a joy to see this again. This is a great show for kids (or nostalgic adults). The puppetry is great. The show is very musical, but the songs (by and large) aren't corny or annoying. Some of them are actually a bit tender. The episodes often deal with themes like prejudice and the environment.

That being said, I'd recommend getting the newer Fraggle Rock: Complete Series Collection DVD set. It has the complete series (as opposed to just a few episodes as on this product). For the price, it's a steal. I hope you enjoy your time "down in Fraggle Rock"!

Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus / 30,000 Leagues Under the Sea

Bought for Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus
I got this because I saw Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus on tv a while ago and had a great time with my friend watching it. It's one of those movies that is so bad you can't hate it. We were laughing the whole time and really this is one of our favorite movies now. This was cheaper with the 30,000 Leagues Under the Sea than the movie itself, so I bought this to save a few dollars. I honestly have not watched the other movie yet so I cannot say how great or how bad that one is. But the price was hard to beat.

BARGAIN PRICE IF YOU LOVE ASYLUM
People who read books should not watch movies. There will never be any similarity between them. Does that make them bad? Verne's book "Journey to the Center of the Earth" is boring compared to any film made about it...except maybe ones with Doug McClure. 30,000 Leagues is clearly deeper than 20,000 Leagues but that doesn't make for a deeper film. This movie made me feel like I was in the first grade playing, "What's wrong with this picture?" It was fun and the only way to watch this film and enjoy it.

The first question I had to raise (having served on a nuclear sub) was when did they start allowing women to serve on subs? The answer I got from Wiki was December 2011...meaning it hasn't happened yet and certainly didn't happen in 2007 when this film was made. Okay, but it made for a more interesting film. Now the enlisted people had dark black background petty officer patches sewn to their left arm on their light blue shirt. The background on the patch is supposed to be the...

2012: Doomsday / The Apocalypse

One Good Movie, One Bad Movie
"2012: Doomsday" and "The Apocalypse" are on this double-sided DVD. They portray two different interpretations of Christianity, one Calvinistic and one more free-will.

"2012: Doomsday" is all predestined and predetermined, so the movie is a road trip movie that concludes at a Mayan pyramid. Little suspense or surprises exist; the characters have no free will and are not believable or compelling. The dialogue is preachy and impossibly frustrating to hear. And the ending of the movie contradicts everything that happened before, which undermines the literal interpretation of the book of Revelations has been hammered home for 90 minutes. Two stars maximum, possibly only one star because nothing happens.

"The Apocalypse" is far more dramatic and unpredictable. Pseudo-scientific explanations are proposed, and characters behave in a believable way. "The Apocalypse" is a relationship movie between the characters and between the characters and the Christian god...

Doomsday on a small budget
First let me say I am a major fan of disaster movies; they are armchair adventures for me and I watch a lot of them. This movie, for plot, acting or special effects in no way comes even close to matching 2012, the major movie release of last year. This particular movie is made on a very small budget; if you have watched any of the disaster movies shown on the SYFY channel, you have a good idea what you are in for here. There are computer generated special effects, some pretty good, some pretty obvious, such as the subzero blizzard in the tropics that doesn't seem to bother the plants at all or make the actors appear to be particularly cold in their tropical clothing. On the plus side, the movie was largely filmed in Belize using at least some footage of a Mayan temple, which helps a bit there. The basic plot of the movie has various people attempting to get to a Mexican Mayan pyramid by Dec. 21st in order to fulfill a Mayan/Christian prophecy. There are some major holes in the...

The Spy Next Door

Perspective for conscientious parents:
This movie was pretty funny, the kids were cute, and the overarching themes of telling the truth and protecting your loved ones are great points of discussion with children. For those that love Jackie Chan movies, you might be a little disappointed that there is not as much action in this movie and some of the stunts are obviously on wires. But it is a movie for kids/families, so the level and excitement of the stunts seemed appropriate to me. A few things I would want to be aware of as a parent before watching the movie with my child: 1)the female villain often shows a lot of cleavage 2)The 13 year old daughter seems to get away with being very disrespectful to the mom (though it is kind of explained a little later in the movie) 3)there is a little profanity 4)a college age young man hits on the 13 year old daughter (though Jackie doesn't let him get away with it) 5)the young boy in the movie boasts about watching pornography on pay-per view 6)he is also obsessed with getting...

Harmless fun!
If you're looking for a decent, fun little movie you can watch with your family in a relatively painless fashion then you've come to the right place.

For some reason many action stars have supplemented their income by appearing in movies with kids. Maybe they are trying to widen their appeal from the hardcore action audience to the family friendly scene. Maybe they're getting too old to keep up with the pace of a full-on action movie. I don't know why they do it, but it's almost becoming mandatory for these guys to take on a kid or three as a side-kick and attempt to blend action and family fare.

And these attempts almost always stink.

This one is better. It's still "action-light" but I think it works because of the star, Jackie Chan. His character seems like a genuinely nice guy who wants to get along with the mandatory bratty kids. Chan's light presence matches up with the tone of the movie and makes it seem ....hmm...not as weird and...

Puts a Jackie Chan Smlle On
Good natured Spy vs. Kids action flick is a low-cal twinkie even by family film standards. The critics liked to play rough with it; and if you feel snooty about it, better stay away. Cute is its stock in trade and there are no disappointments if expectations remain logical: PG Jackie Chan suburban domestic comedy with mild action. Wacky Russian mobsters and their dominatrix-babe leader wear leathers and generally show bad taste as the foil in the spy plot, which follows Jackie home to his family to be.
Good for kids or adults like me who need a balance from the heavy stuff.
Blu-ray makes the grade for sight and sound.

Invictus (Rental Ready)

Reconciliation on the Field
Rugby has never been well publicized in the US. Soccer, although not a ranking sport, receives far more publicity. Therefore, it was knowledge-expanding and stirring to observe the underdog South Africa team's road to a 1995 Rugby cup victory.

The accompanying plot, of course, was the work of Nelson Mandela in using this victory and its team preparation to try to unify South Africa. From our own trip in 1994, when the country was just opening up, we had an idea that there was much unrest and volatility. The nation was still racially divided, although the Apartheid enforced by a distinct white minority had just ended.

Mandela has never received credit for the job he did in keeping South Africa's peace, while trying to encourage foreign investment. He saw that merely seizing white-owned businesses and infrastructure would only be looting of a fixed amount of wealth. No growth could result from the types of activities that were occurring in Zimbabwe and Mozambique,...

Inspirational
Turning a story with a sports theme into a good movie is often a challenge. Too often, the viewer is left with clichés. This is not the case with "Invictus". Clint Eastwood as director and producer has crafted a wonderful and moving tale. It deserves a wide audience.

The sport of Rugby Union is little known in America but the use of big name stars such as Morgan Freeman playing Nelson Mandela and Matt Damon playing the South African captain Francois Pienaar works well. They were both truly convincing. Damon in particular seemed to master the Afrikaans accent.

"Invictus" is touching. I frequently found myself almost moved to tears. The story of how Mandela was able to look beyond simple revenge and move forward in the spirit of reconciliation was uplifting. If only other nations could follow this example. Mandela had much to be bitter about but proved that he was a bigger man. In this way, he further condemned apartheid to the dustbin of history...

The agony and the ecstacy
'Invictus' is a Latin term meaning invincible, or unconquerable. It is also the title of an important poem, one which Nelson Mandela found inspiring during his long walk to victory, penned in the 1800s of the same title, which includes these famous words:

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Mandela faced perhaps even more formidable challenges upon becoming the first post-Apartheid president of South Africa than he had trying to end Apartheid -- how does one manage this kind of change, this kind of forgiveness, this kind of reconciliation? Perhaps the most important scene in the film for me was the one in which Mandela discusses with Francois Pienaar, the South African rugby team's captain, what kind of leadership philosophy one needs to have, particularly when faced with a seemingly hopeless task that most have written off as unobtainable...

Sesame Street: Learning Triple Feature (Learning About Letters / The Great Numbers Game / Sing, Hoot & Howl)

Great old episodes!
This DVD set contains three 30-minute Sesame Street episodes. They are the older episodes, and the graphics show that. However, my twins (now 16 months) absolutely LOVE them. Not only are they very educational, but they are glued to them the whole time and have been for the last several months. The DVDs include The Great Numbers Game, The Letter Chase, and Sing, Hoot, and Howl. My boys love these more than the newer Sesame Street videos.

Love these classic videos!
These stories are compiled from old Sesame Street episodes. My 23-month-old particularly loves the "Numbers Game" video, as it is filled with catchy songs in a variety of styles. My only regret is that somehow, the "Sing, Hoot and Howl" DVD got cracked inside the DVD case within a few days of arrival, so we only got to enjoy that one a few times. Children's Television Workshop, keep the DVDs but give me a more toddler-proof case, please!

War of Worlds 2: The Next Wave / Invasion of Pod People

War of the worlds 2 is Good, The pod people soft core porn at best
Let me just say that there are two movies here, one is a B movie (War of the Worlds 2) and the other is just garbage (invasion of the pod people). I can usually find something positive about the worst movie, but this was just pure garbage.

Let's look at both of the movies individually.

War of the Worlds 2 picks up where the sci-fi channel version of War of The Worlds leaves off. Same main guy (C. Thomas Howell). It's a good movie, sure it's a B movie, but if you go in for B movies this is well worth watching. I am lucky in that I was able to see it on Sci - Fi. The used version I purchased was scratched badly so, I had to miss parts. Eventually, I will get another copy. However, back to the movie. In this movie, the survivors eventually end up going to Mars through a time portal and fighting the Martians. The special FX are poor, but then it's a C. Thomas Howell movie, so low budget. I have to say I enjoyed this movie greatly. So, I recommend it...

Code Of Silence/Hero And The Terror

The 80's action!
I always enjoy Chuck Norris films. They have a little comedy mixed with high caliber martial arts action. This two action movies are a really good example of how movies were made in the 80's. They remind me of Steven Seagal movies. I am classic and so I like classic movies. Those new movies today don't compare to the old ones. A good collection set for sure. This 2 action pack set consists of one disc. There are no movie menus. The movies are in English and that's about it. There are no language, audio, or scene options. The movies don't have any subtitles. I think that all movies in the DVD format should have audio and language options. This is one reason why DVD's are better than VHS. However, both movies have great picture and sound quality. Highly recommend for Chuck Norris fans. Personally, I think Code of Silence is a better movie than Hero and the Terror. But that's just my opinion. Both movies are full of action. This movies take me back to the good old 80's. Great movies!

Read and Share: Jesus Series - Life and Miracles DVD

sweet
I saw this playing in a Christian bookstore and bought it. I normally don't care for any kind of Christian movie. Movies are a medium more condusive to entertainment than faith. I think this is generally true but I don't hold a doctrine that excludes video or motion picture as a teaching medium. So I was attracted to this video because I could see that it was sharing a story in a captivating way. It is shared at the 3-6 year old level, and I have two boys in that range.

Technically the animation is superior to old-school stop frame (think Hanna Barbara). The computer facilitates very fluid motion. The coloration is very rich and the lighting is so detailed it's very fascinating to see, but neither is particularly realistic. The artwork is obviously very stylized but it suffices in that it is sober and practical. The figures and landscape are niether comic nor elaborate. Compared to contemporary, hollywood-class animation this should be expected to reflect a...

Megafault

Hilarious
This movie was hilarious. My husband and I had a great time making fun of the absolutely horrible special effects (reminiscent of the old Power Ranger shows). The acting was so bad it was funny but truly, the special effects were what truly made the movie entertaining. It's only worth watching if you have a warped sense of humor like we do. It was seriously so bad it was funny.

Terrible "Disaster Film"
"Megafault" is a disaster film from Syfy (formerly known as the Sci Fi Channel), starring late Brittany Murphy as Dr. Amy Lane, a scientist trying to stop the global disaster caused by an enormous earthquake. Though the premise looks like some Roland Emmerich movie, "Magafault" is far less entertaining with an impossible storyline, cheesy effects and inept direction. The horrible film is, however, not without entertainment value in an "Ed Wood" kind of way.

I don't want to repeat the story here. In short, it is about a big fault destroying the whole country. A huge fissure runs, swallowing up people (about 20 or more), destroying buildings (created by cheesy computer graphics), while our heroes and heroine are desperate to save their family, and save the day, too. This is a familiar format so poorly executed that some parts of it have become an unintentional comedy.

I don't need scientific accuracy in this kind of action films, but when a crack in the ground...

It ok, but nothing great
We start in the hills of West Virginia where Charley "Boomer" Baxter (Eriq LaSalle) is blasting a mountain. By accident, Baxter set off a masssive earthquake that is felt as away as Washington D.C. were Dr. Amy Lane (Brittany Mruhpyy)is with her fmaily. Within a giant Megafault is created that is racing across the country, leaving death in it wake. With the help of Dr. Mark Rhodes (Bruce Davidson) and serect miltary weapon that came create earthquakes, Lane and Baxter race to the stop the megafualt before it hits Califoria.
"Megafualt" is not a great movie but really not that bad. The writers have all the usual things that you expect to. One person that is right while everyone else is wrong, cute kid, the one character that you know will be dead before it over, the miltary that is either the cause of the problem or has the secret weapon to save the day. Overall Megafault is the type of movie that Syfy puts out and you may just want to rent it instead of buying it.

Extraordinary Measures

Extraordinary movie
This movie motivated me to write my first review.

I read on 'Rottentomatoes' that Extraordinary Measures "never feels like more than a made-for-TV tearjerker." Don't believe it! I am convinced that critics who do critiquing for a living often lose their senses of wonder, along with their senses of humor. After hundreds to thousands of movie viewings, they no longer see the story that makes the acting come alive. They only judge the acting (and that, superficially), and my guess is that most go into the theater with preconceived ideas based on trailers and their personal attitudes toward the actors in the film under review.

So with that out of the way, I will concentrate on the movie which I saw last night.

John & Aileen Crowley and their children, John Jr., Megan and Patrick, are the real stars of this movie. Which tells me that the actors who portrayed them did their job well.

As usual in his serious roles, Brendan Fraser brought to the...

I won't even pretend to know the facts about Pompe disease. But what I do know is movies. And I take very much pleasure in squashing the opinions that Extraordinary Measures is a bad film and a cheesy film and that it belongs on a day-time old lady channel like Lifetime, rather than in mainstream theaters across our beautiful nation. It was fantastic.

Brendan Fraser stars as John Crowley, a father desperate to save his two children who are dying from the horrible disease. When he hears of a doctor who's been working on a cure, he attempts to call on him for...

Superior Show
"Extraordinary Measures" is an inspiring movie. It is based upon the true story of the Crowley family and their struggle with Pompe disease. I rate this movie superior because the tale is vital, the action gripping, and the movie is well acted.

"Extraordinary Measures" presents John Crowley (Brendan Fraser), his wife Aileen (Keri Russell) and their children, John Jr. (Sam M. Hall), Megan (Meredith Droeger) and Patrick (Diego Velazquez). Both Megan and Patrick Crowley have Pompe disease and are not expected to live past their eighth or ninth birthday. John and Aileen decide that prognosis is unacceptable and become determined to find a cure.

The Crowleys learn that professor Robert Stonehill (Harrison Ford) at the University of Nebraska Is close to finding a treatment for Pompe. They solicit Stonehill's help and form a company dedicated to discovering a cure for this terrible disease.

As I watched the science progress, I began to understand the...

Southern Gothic

Redneck Religious Vampires Burn In Hell
Not the typical vampire flick as it pokes fun at small minded small town rednecks who develop a thirst for blood. The film is beautifully shot and is true to vampire pretexts.

Nice job
Sealed with a kiss. What a movie. It knocks you off with timeless style and needs no subtitles. A classic!

"Southern Gothic" is high on practical effects and low on character development
"Southern Gothic" was written and directed by Marc Young. It stars Yul Vazquez as Hazel Fortune, a bouncer at a pole-dancing club who is an alcoholic recovering from the death of his little girl and his wife leaving him. The only thing that has captured Fortune's interest is the new dancer, Starla played by Nicole DuPort and her daughter, Hope played by Emily Catherine Young. When the Southern town gets overrun by a vampire preacher and his religious converts trying to "save" the town, Fortune has to overcome his own problems to try to save Starla and Hope.

"What kind of a name is Hazel Fortune?" one character asks. A weird one. This guy is anything but Donnie Darko. Vazquez appears to have one emotion -- being solemn. At first, one could wonder if it was a choice because of him being drunk all the time that he could be one of those quiet, sullen drunks. But no, even when the character stops drinking in order to babysit the new dancer's daughter, he can barely crack a...

Legion

A Fallen Angel Fights for Our Salvation
God has lost faith in humanity, something that hasn't happened since the days of Noah. But instead of a flood, He has sent down a legion of angels, who possess the bodies of weak-minded people, turning them into ... certainly not demons, but then again, there's nothing angelic about these people, so maybe there's no other way to describe them. Anyway, it seems the only one who has kept the faith is the archangel Michael (Paul Bettany), who directly disobeys God by protecting what he was sent to destroy: A pregnant young waitress named Charlie (Adrianne Palicki), whose child was prophesized to be humanity's salvation. Upon finding her in a middle-of-nowhere New Mexico diner - named, appropriately, Paradise Falls - Michael leads a stranded group of strangers in an apocalyptic battle against the angels, who descend in droves.

What I find fascinating is that, for a film that comes across as nothing more than a violent, gory supernatural thriller, "Legion" tells a thoroughly...

FALLEN ANGELS
LEGION is one of those movies you should probably hate, but I found myself liking it anyway. Paul Bettany plays a heaven-weary archangel Michael who disobeys God's orders to wipeout mankind. When archangel Gabriel steps in to punish him and carry out the order, all heaven breaks loose!
The film's setting in a desert cafe is the battleground and a small gathering joins in the battle.
Aforementioned plot holes aside, the movie uses its premise effectively with a good cast and visuals. Maybe hokey but fun!

What He Needed
I was never a fan of horror movies, but my husband has convinced me to watch a few, and I've really come to like certain ones. I now add LEGION to that special list. LEGION is a different kind of horror flick. Not much horror, not much gore, plenty of action, and a surprising amount of goodness and light. The general plot is that God has lost hope in mankind and has sent a plague of angels to wipe it out. But one of his archangels turns against him and comes to Earth to protect humanity. Archangel Michael still truly loves mankind, and will lay down his live to save us all. Despite this description, LEGION is not irreverent and not overly religious. But, I am not going to dwell on this aspect of LEGION, because the movie doesn't dwell on it.

I knew nothing about LEGION before we started, but as I watched it, it sure felt like a Stephen King novel: a group of strangers, stranded at an isolated diner, must fight off hordes of evil. And even though it is NOT based on a King...

The Unsaid

Would Merging Pasts Thrill Someone? I say, yes.
'The Unsaid' is a distinct movie, in that it makes many different attempts in the name of alleviating suspense in a film. Psychology and the problems enhanced by its nature usually form the grounds of the plots of most American movies. This movie, is an addition. But, it goes beyond that state, by presenting a psychological quandary and developing on it until the end of the movie.

To be more specific, Andy Garcia plays the therapist, who has lost his son recently by his suicide. One of his fellows asks for help in a case of one of her patients, Vincent Kartheiser who comes out to have an extraordinary past. Having sworn not to deal with anymore patients, Garcia still cannot refrain himself from seeing and helping him. The fact that Andy hasn't been able to forget the pain of his son's loss will make Andy's therapy of Vincent very special, because after some time with him, Vincent will reminisce Andy's own son.

Moreover, in the course of the movie, what you think you know will be...

The Great One That Got Away From Major Theatrical Release
This is one of the most powerfully charged psychological thrillers that I have seen in recent years ! The Unsaid is sheer brilliance with an ensemble of talented actors I have never heard of before except for the underrated and superbly gifted Andy Garcia. This film has to definitely tug on some emotions from any viewer...

The Unsaid shows the beauty and compassion of one human being trying to reach out to another in desperate need and at the same time the flipside of the darkest corners of the human soul and fragmented psyche. One taboo subject in particular is at the heart of the subplot or twist !

Garcia portrays a psychologist/therapist who grieves over the suicide of his son in painful silence. A few years later he reluctantly takes on a case to help another boy in dire need of therapy after his mother was killed by his father. He takes the case after the urgence and insistance of one of his former students who is now a case/social worker. The social worker strongly feels...

A different type of thriller
This movie is one of the more original "thrillers" I have seen, being a psychological movie with a few unexpected twists and turns. There is no clear protagonist in this movie, as each character has someone or something against him or her, and holds grudges against many elements of the world.

I can see why this movie never made it into American cinemas. It does not have that Hollywood appeal. The characters don't live in mansions, they don't have glamorous lives, and there is hardly any romance throughout the movie. It portrays real people, not stereotypes, and attempts to dig into the depth of the human mind. It can be devastating, and does not have a clear happy ending.

I would recommend this to people who want to watch a movie with a different feel to it.

Red Skelton - Classic Commercials!

not what you think it is...
There are only about 2 commercials that have Red in them on this DVD...the other commercials are just those originally aired with his show, but cut out of the DVD releases. A nice bit of TV commercial history, but not for those looking for commercials starring Red. This DVD was originally a bonus disc with the "Unreleased" set.
