Sweet funny little film!
I bought this DVD because some friends of mine, who love funny movies, told me about it. I must say, I really liked this out of the ordinary little film. I HATE the typical Hollywood crap "comedy" that the movie industry is constantly trying to force down my throat, and I think that's why my friends who really know me pointed out "the Mini" to me. The main character in this movie is just trying to live a happy life despite having a lousy job and having a less than extraordinary love life. The opportunity to race in, and perhaps win, a mini marathon, provides him the chance to become the man of his dreams. And he does all this with a lot of laughs along the way. Another thing, I liked how this was a family film without the typical, boring profanity and standard vulgar jokes that you see all the time in movies. They used to make movies like "the Mini" back in the day when people knew how to make funny comedies without stupid, unseemly, and completely unrealistic scenarios that you see...
COULD YOU GET THE PAPER FOR ME?
I can't believe I watched the same film as everyone else. I thought the humor was lame. One of the funny parts was when a pretty woman acted as a shill at a shoe store. Another real funny time was when Fran's mom (Sally Noble Hager) drops her son off. Rick (Chris Stack) is watching and waving saying under his breath, "Wave if you want it." Okay, this stuff was funny in the 7th grade, but as an adult I had a hard time making it through this film.
Fran (Larry Dahlke) sells Futons and aspires to be a mattress salesman. He is going to race against Rick for the spot in a mini marathon. Meanwhile he is attempting to start a relationship with Carmen (Angie Craft). The romance aspect was poorly done. The characters were poor cliche caricatures. It is this type of film that gives "indie" a bad name when people rave over garbage.
No f-bombs, sex, or nudity.
Quirky, funny comedy hits all the high notes
A subtly scathing and hilarious look at middle America. Most independent comedies try to ratchet up the raunch, but this film takes a different approach with goofy characters and absurd plot twists. On its surface, the movie is a sweet, fun-loving ride that kids of all ages would enjoy, but if you look closer there's a layer of cultural commentary that makes the film a more thoughtful comedy than most with some rather devious subversive wit. A very funny film!
